FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about listing properties

Try to strike a good balance between facts and emotions. The first things people see are the image, the price, the key details, and the title. Below, you’ll find tips on how to make each element work to your advantage:
Highlight special features that aren’t already covered in the standard fields like price, number of rooms, or living space. Use vivid language that sparks emotion, such as:
  • Urban oasis with rooftop terrace and views of the Glarus Alps
  • Stylish top-floor living – loft with wow factor
  • Move in & start living: Furnished apartment for 6 months
Show what makes your home special. Is it the bright, airy living room? The spacious balcony with lake views? Or the sleek, modern kitchen island? Present your property in the best light—and keep these basics in mind:
  • Landscape format: This ensures your photos display perfectly in search results.
  • Tidy up: Clean, uncluttered spaces make rooms look bigger.
  • Natural light: Shoot during the day, open the curtains, and turn on lights if needed.
  • Protect your privacy: Avoid showing valuables or personal details in the pictures.
Your description is more than just facts – it creates a feeling. Talk about what makes your place special: Is it the sunny breakfast nook by the window? The stylish renovation with attention to detail? Or the quiet neighbourhood with easy access to nature? To make your description shine, keep these tips in mind:
  • Be specific, not generic: Skip empty phrases like "great location" or "nice property." Say what you actually love about it.
  • Keep it structured: Break it down – for example into location, features, and highlights.
  • Stay honest: Don't oversell it. A truthful listing builds trust and saves you back-and-forth later.
  • Know your audience: Renting to families? Mention schools or playgrounds nearby. Targeting design-savvy buyers? Highlight materials and interior style.
  • Be clear about costs: Say what's included in the price – utilities, parking, furniture. Just as important: what's not included. That way, there are no surprises.
💡 Tip: Read your text out loud. If it sounds natural, it's probably just right for your listing.
Clear floor plans, detailed layouts, or a complete set of documents show professionalism – and build trust from the very first glance. Whenever possible, upload these documents:
  • Floor plan: Gives a quick visual of the room layout and dimensions.
  • Detailed property description: Add info about the year of construction, renovations, fittings, or energy ratings.
  • Rental documents: For rental properties, things like house rules, regulations, or a breakdown of extra costs help keep things transparent.
  • Sales documents: For properties for sale, documents like the land registry plan, building description, or energy certificate add credibility.
💡 Tip: Make sure your documents are up to date, easy to read, and as complete as possible. The better prepared your listing is, the more convincing it will be.
It’s easy: Click or tap the photo you want to move and drag it to the desired position. The first image in the top left is your cover photo – it appears in the preview and search results. You can change it just like any other image using drag & drop.
Once you’ve submitted your listing for publication, we’ll review it manually during regular business hours (Monday to Friday). This usually takes a few hours, but depending on demand, it may take up to 2 working days. As soon as your listing is published, you’ll receive a confirmation email.

The cost depends on the service package you choose, the type of property, location, and whether you're renting or selling. But there’s a special deal for private individuals:

Free listing: If you're a tenant looking for a new tenant (Nachmieter), the first week of a basic ad is free. After that, the ad renews automatically until you deactivate it. Weekly flat fees apply, which vary by region and property type. These fees are charged in full for each started week

All other listings are paid and also renew automatically until you deactivate them.

To see the exact price, just start creating your ad on homegate.ch. You’ll get a clear cost breakdown before confirming anything.

That depends on the package you choose. You’ll pick the duration in the final step before publishing, and you’ll find all details in your confirmation email.
Some packages renew automatically, others expire. You’ll see this info during booking and in your confirmation email. To double-check, go to "My listings".
As part of the Basic package and your selected role as a tenant, your listing goes live for 7 days—but during this time, only TenantPlus members can contact you. This gives you the chance to publish your listing for free for one week. Find out more about TenantPlus.
